Abstract

The lines of the poet Amma, "To be born as a Mangaiyar, one must do good deeds," are written in a way that glorifies the birth of women. A woman is multifaceted as a mother, daughter, sister, and wife. We learn about the status of women through the literature that emerged during that period and the customs of the people. Many writers have expressed the status of women in society and their freedom through contemporary literature such as novels and short stories. In this way, this article examines the importance of women in society by showing the equal role, equal authority, and equal priority of women in deciding their own lives in the novel by Cho. Dharman.
