Abstract

R. Balasubramaniam states that a game is a field that trains one for life. In this context, "Modi Vithai or Modi Vilaiyattu" is one of the competitive games played only in specific, notable areas predominantly inhabited by the Thottiya Sakkiliar community in the Kongu region. Generally, a competitive game results in either victory or defeat for an individual or a team. However, in Modi Vithai, one team uses its magical or trickery skills to mesmerize another team, thereby claiming victory. Afterwards, both teams join together to celebrate the victory. Even today, in the small village of Kavalipalayam, Nambiyur Taluk, Erode District, the game called Modi Vithai is played by youngsters on Maattu Pongal day. Similarly, in the small village of Nehru Nagar, Reddiapalayam, Anthiyur Taluk, it is played only during village festival seasons. The purpose of this research paper is to explore Modi Vilaiyattu or Modi Vithai.
