Abstract

In the history of Tamil literature, proverbs and the dialogues of the Kurunthokai are closely related to the lives of the people. Among these, Pazhamozhi Nanuru holds a significant place. This work compiles proverbs covering various fields such as politics, social ethics, humanism, and economics. Notably, it includes many proverbs related to kings. The aim of this study is to identify the proverbs related to kings in Pazhamozhi Nanuru, to highlight their political and social basis, and to explain the system of governance of that era through literature. In this book, kings are depicted in various ways such as being just, generous givers, brave in battle, and concerned about the welfare of the people. This shows that the position of the king in the Tamil society of that time was elevated, and the system of governance was intertwined with ethics, righteousness, and military prowess. This study examines kings from a literary perspective.

This research serves as an excellent literary foundation for understanding the political values and governance policies of Tamil society. Furthermore, this study gains importance in demonstrating how political history and cultural values are disseminated in society through proverbs.

தமிழ் இலக்கிய வரலாற்றில் பழமொழிகளும் குறுந்தொகைச் சொல்லாடல்களும் மக்களின் வாழ்வியலுடன் நெருங்கிய தொடர்புடையவை. அவற்றில் சிறப்பிடம்பிடிக்கும் ஒரு முக்கியமான நூல் பழமொழி நானூறு ஆகும். இந்நூல் அரசியல், சமூக நெறி, மனிதநேயம், பொருளாதாரம் போன்ற பல துறைகளைக் கொண்ட பழமொழிகளைத் தொகுத்து வழங்குகிறது. குறிப்பாக, மன்னர்கள் குறித்த பல பழமொழிகள் இதில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன. இவ்வாய்வின் நோக்கம், பழமொழி நானூற்றில் இடம்பெறும் மன்னர் தொடர்பான பழமொழிகளை அடையாளம் காணுதல், அவற்றின் அரசியல் – சமூக அடிப்படையைக் கோடிட்டுக் காட்டுதல், மேலும் அந்தக் கால அரசாட்சி அமைப்பை இலக்கியத்தின் வழி விளக்குதல் ஆகும். இந்நூலில் மன்னர்கள் நீதிமான், பரிசளிப்பவர், வீரத்தால் சிறந்தவர், மக்கள் நலனில் அக்கறை கொண்டவர் எனப் பல்வேறு வகைகளில் சித்தரிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இது அக்காலத் தமிழ்ச் சமூகத்தில் மன்னனின் நிலை உயர்ந்ததாகவும், அரசாட்சி முறை நெறி, அறம், போர்திறன் ஆகியவற்றோடு இணைந்திருந்ததையும் காட்டுகிறது. இவ்வாய்வில், மன்னரைப் பற்றி இலக்கியவியல் கோணத்தில் ஆராயப்படுகின்றது.

இவ்வாய்வு தமிழ் சமூகத்தின் அரசியல் விழுமியங்களையும் ஆட்சிக் கொள்கைகளையும் வெளிப்படுத்தும் சிறந்த இலக்கிய அடிப்படையாக அமைகிறது. மேலும், பழமொழிகளின் வழி அரசியல் வரலாறு மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு மதிப்பீடுகள் எவ்வாறு சமூகத்தில் பரவியுள்ளன என்பதற்கும் இவ்வாய்வு முக்கியத்துவம் பெறுகிறது.
