Abstract

In this research article titled 'Short Tales from Multiple Perspectives,' we will extensively examine the concepts under the following headings: Introduction, Terminology, Definition and Etymology (Reason for the Name) of the Short Tale, the thoughts of Xavier Antony and L.A. Francis Xavier regarding Short Tales, explanations of Short Tales found in Moral Texts, Sangam Literature, Epics, and Poems, followed by a Conclusion and a Summary. Beyond merely cataloging these elements, our objective is to unravel the multifaceted nature of the short tale, tracing its evolution and enduring relevance across disparate cultural and historical landscapes. The initial sections will establish a robust theoretical framework, delving into the linguistic intricacies and conceptual boundaries that define this narrative form, addressing questions of brevity, narrative scope, and thematic concentration. Subsequently, by scrutinizing the critical insights offered by scholars like Xavier Antony and L.A. Francis Xavier, we aim to juxtapose diverse analytical approaches, understanding how different academic lenses shape our apprehension of these concise narratives. The heart of our investigation lies in the comparative analysis of short tales embedded within varied literary traditions—from the pithy didacticism of ancient moral texts to the rich anecdotal fabric of Sangam literature, and from the episodic grandeur found within epics to the concise expressive power of narrative poems. This panoramic survey seeks to illuminate not only the stylistic and structural commonalities but also the unique cultural inflections that distinguish short tales across these genres, ultimately revealing their pervasive role in shaping human understanding, transmitting wisdom, and preserving collective memory.
