The Divine Light in Thiruvasagam

Abstract

God is described as the embodiment of supreme wisdom and radiant light. In the Thiruvasagam, Lord Shiva is portrayed as divine light in many places. The concept of receiving light from the divine is also found in Christianity, while in Islam, it is said that God is filled with light so powerful that it burns everything within the distance of direct vision. Vallalar refers to God as Arutperunjothi (Supreme Grace-Light). The divine light described by Vallalar aligns closely with the ideas expressed by Manickavasagar. God, who governs the five elements (pancha bhootas), gives heat to the sun and coolness to the moon, and exists as light beyond the cosmos. Furthermore, the cosmic philosophy of Thayumanavar Swamigal suggests that the radiant light operates within humans through divine command.

இறைவன் பேரறிவாளனாகவும், பேரொளி வீசுபவனாகவும் இருக்கிறான். திருவாசகத்தில் பல்வேறு இடங்களில் சிவபெருமான் ஜோதியாகவே கூறப்படுகிறார். ஒளியாகிய கடவுளிடமிருந்து ஒளி பெறுவதாக கிறித்துவ மதத்திலும், இறைவன் ஒளிபொருந்தியவன் அவன் நேரடியாக காணும் தொலைவு வரை எரிந்துவிடும் அளவிற்கு அதீத சக்தி அந்த ஒளியில் உண்டு என்பது இஸ்லாம் மதத்தில் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இறைவனை அருட்பெருஞ்சோதி என்றே வள்ளலார் குறிப்பிடுகின்றார். வள்ளலார் கூறும் ஜோதி ரூபமான இறைசக்தி அனைத்தும் மணிவாசகப் பெருமானின் கருத்தையே ஒத்துப்போகிறது. பஞ்சபூதங்களை ஆளுமை செய்யும் இறைவன் சூரியனுக்கு வெப்பத்தையும், சந்திரனுக்கு குளிர்ச்சியையும் தந்து அண்டத்திற்கு அப்பால் ஒளியாக இருக்கிறான் என்பதும் விளங்கலாகிறது. மேலும் தாயுமானவ சுவாமிகளின் பிரபஞ்ச கொள்கையானது பிரகாசிக்கும் ஒளி மனிதனுள்ளும் இருந்து ஆஞ்ஞையில் இயங்குகிறது என்பதேயாம்.
