Guided by the principle that literature serves as a social institution and reflects the evolving values and emotions of its populace, this research comprehensively analyzes five primary social concepts depicted within the novel: education, family life, food habits, occupational segregation, and deeply held beliefs.

This study investigates the processes by which traditional cultures, vividly rendered in Yaamam, become fragmented and contradictory when confronted by the coercive forces of colonialism and the subsequent arrival of modernism. The analysis establishes several subtle conclusions, including: how the pursuit of education acts as a disruptive force, breaking significant social taboos (such as the rigid restriction against crossing the seas); how the entrenched gender division of labor contributes directly to widening economic disparities; and the enduring prevalence of profound superstitions even within a rapidly modernizing colonial context.
