Digital Commercialization of Tamil Language and Cultural Content in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Entrepreneurial Opportunities and Challenges

In the second decade of the twenty-first century, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is creating a profound impact across various domains, including language, culture, media, and commerce. This technology has unlocked new possibilities to globally monetize, disseminate, and preserve Tamil language and cultural content in innovative formats. This paper comprehensively examines the entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges surrounding the digital commercialization of Tamil language and cultural assets in the AI era. The article analyzes how Tamil culture is being commercialized across diverse platforms such as Tamil Natural Language Processing (NLP), voice technology, machine translation, digital publishing, e-commerce platforms, social media content creation, and Educational Technology (EdTech). Furthermore, critical challenges—including the scarcity of language technology resources, lack of datasets, the digital divide, copyright issues, and financial limitations—are discussed. Finally, policy and practical recommendations are proposed for the sustainable digital commercialization of Tamil language and cultural content.
