Abstract

The Kamba Ramayanam is an epic that tells the story of Rama in Tamil. Kambar named this work Ramavataram, and he composed it in accordance with Tamil traditions, integrating the epic with the culture.The Kamba Ramayanam contains information from various fields such as astronomy, geography, mathematics, technology, and agriculture, alongside significant details related to medicine. Throughout the epic, we find descriptions of diseases and their remedies. A dedicated chapter, the Marundhumalai Padalam (Chapter of the Mountain of Medicine), further highlights Kambar's extensive knowledge of medical traditions, which is the focus of this research.

கம்பராமாயணம் இராமனது வரலாற்றை தமிழில் எடுத்துக் கூறும் வழி நூலாகும். கம்பர் இந்நூலூக்கு இராமவதாரம் என பெயரிட்டுள்ளார். தமிழ் மரபுக்கு ஏற்ப காப்பியத்தை பண்பாட்டோடு இணைத்து பாடியுள்ளார். கம்பராமாயணத்தில் வானியல், புவியியல் ,கணிதவியல், தொழில்நுட்பம், வேளாண்மையில் என பல்வேறு துறை சார்ந்தச் செய்திகளோடு மருத்துவத்துறை சார்ந்த செய்திகளும் காணப்படுகிறது. நோய்கள் பற்றியும் நோய்களுக்கு தீர்வாக மருந்துகள் பற்றியும் காப்பியம் முழுவதும் காணப்படுவதோடு மருத்துவத்திற்கென தனியே மருந்துமலைப் படலம் அமைந்துள்ளதன் மூலம் கம்பரின் மருத்துவ மரபு அறிவை வெளிக்கொணர்வது இவ்வாய்வின் நோக்கமாக அமையும்.
