THE MOTHER GODDESS WORSHIP OF MOONGILANAI KAMAATCHIYAMMAN

Abstract

The saying "What is in the cosmos is in the body" is a tenet of the Siddhars. Here, "Cosmos" refers to the Universe and "Body" refers to a Human being. The Universe is composed of the five elements, and the human body is also made of these same five elements. Realizing the benefits and power of these elements, humans began to worship them as deities. The worship of the five elements has been practiced since ancient times. People worshipped the Earth and Water upon seeing their ability to produce new things. They also worshipped women as goddesses after understanding their ability to create new life and protect the family. The Earth was revered as the Earth Goddess, and water bodies were honored with feminine names, which led to the emergence of the first Mother goddess worship. Mother goddesses were often worshipped outside of the village and as virgin deities. The objective of this research is to study the history of Moongilanai Kamakshi Amman temple and the worshipping practices to the mother goddess.

அண்டத்தில் உள்ளதே பிண்டம் என்பது சித்தர்களின் வாக்காகும். அண்டம் என்பது உலகத்தையும் பிண்டம் என்பது மனிதனையும் குறிக்கும். உலகம் என்பது ஐம்பூதக் கூறுகளால் ஆக்கப்ட்டது. மனித உடலும் ஐம்பூதக் கூறுகளால் ஆக்கப்பட்டது. ஐம்பூதங்களின் நன்மையையும் ஆற்றலையும் கண்ட மனிதன் அவற்றைத் தெய்வமாக வழிபடத் தொடங்கினான். ஐம்பூதங்களின் வழிபாட்டு முறையானது தொன்றுதொட்டு நிகழ்ந்து வருகிறது. நிலமும் நீரும் புதிய பொருட்களை உற்பத்தி செய்வதைக் கண்டு நிலத்தையும் நீரினையும் வணங்கினான். பெண் என்பவள் புதிதாக உயிரினை உருவாக்குவதையும் குடும்பத்தினைப் பாதுகாப்பதையும் அறிந்து பெண்ணைத் தெய்வமாக வழிபட்டான். நிலத்தினை நிலமகளாகப் போற்றினான். நீர்நிலைகளை பெண்ணின் பெயராலேயே சிறப்பித்த நாள் முதல் தாய்த்தெய்வ வழிபாட்டுமுறை தோன்றியது. தாய்த்தெய்வ வழிபாட்டு முறையானது பெரும்பாலும் ஊருக்கு வெளியேயும் கன்னி தெய்வமாகவும் வைத்து வழிபடப்படுவதாகும் தாய்த் தெய்வ வழிபாட்டின் அம்சமாகவும் ஊருக்கு வெளியேயும் இருக்கும் மூங்கிலணை காமாட்சியம்மனின் தலவரலாற்றினையும் வழிபாட்டு முறைகளையும் ஆராய்வதே இவ்வாய்வின் நோக்கமாகும்.
