Abstract

In the Tamil context, creating ancient literary and grammatical works and providing commentaries for them is a continuous tradition. The 'Viruttiyurai' written by Sankara Namachivayar for the Nannul (a grammar of the Tamil language in A.C.13th century) holds a unique place in the world of Tamil grammar due to its extensive explanations.

Furthermore, this article analyzes the religious harmony expressed in Sankara Namachivayar’s commentary, the request made by Maruthappa Devar, and his discussions regarding religion and Sanskrit. Through this, the objective of this research is to examine the intellectual integrity of a commentator and his religious devotion.

தொன்மையான இலக்கிய, இலக்கண நூல்களை இயற்றுதல் மற்றும் அவற்றுக்கு உரை வகுத்தல் என்பது தமிழ்ச் சூழலில் தொடர்ச்சியான ஒரு மரபாகும். நன்னூலுக்குச் சங்கர நமச்சிவாயர் இயற்றிய ‘விருத்தியுரை’, அதன் விரிவான விளக்கங்கள், இலக்கண உலகில் தனித்துவம் பெறுகிறது. மேலும், இக்கட்டுரை சங்கர நமச்சிவாயரின் உரையில் வெளிப்படும் சமய நல்லிணக்கம், ஊற்றுமலை மருதப்ப தேவரின் வேண்டுகோள், மற்றும் அவரது சமயம் மற்றும் வடமொழி விவாதங்களைப் பகுப்பாய்வு செய்கிறது. இதன் மூலம் ஒரு உரையாசிரியரின் அறிவுசார் நேர்மையையும், அவரது சமய பற்றையும் ஆராய்வதே இவ்ஆய்வின்  நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது.
