Abstract

One who ruled a large territory was the vendhar. Those who ruled over a small territory were called small-territory kings. Thus, those who ruled over a small territory were magnanimous vallals. Tamil literature does not honour to the moverndhars as vallals. Vallals are these who have the ability to show compassion even to ordinary small creatures. The seven vallas who lived in the sangam, who are considered to be the vallas who are admired in literature are Paari, Oori, kaari, Nalli, Adhiyan, Began, and Aai. The territory ruled by these clans is mostly mountainous and forested with kurinji and Mullai. The small territory kings, the Kadaiyelu vallals, also leaders of independent ethinic group. Ethnic group life is a civilized way of life where everyone is equal and everything is common. Everyone shared the works and the benefits. Sharing is considered a key aspect of ethnic life. Ethnic groups were considered to be prosperous without land dominance. They were not aggressive. They were concerned about their own ethnic identity. They aimed to help those who sought refuge at any time. They were interested in living in harmony with the natural environment. They were thinkers with a deep and broad view of art and culture. The essence of the study is to explore and reveal the generosity, grace. And bravery of such vallals.
