Abstract

Melanmai Ponnusami is an eminent literary personality in Karisal Literature of Tamil Nadu. Poverty prevailed through his early stages of his life and his poverty striken early life and influenced his writings and helped his later literary productions. He is one among the Karisal writers who deals with the themes of Marxist ideology. Besides, His novels deal with prominent social themes and they reflect socio-cultural lives of middle class Tamil society. His novels Ishwar, Urmann, Ini are popular among Tamil readers. His works voice for the marginalized and oppressed people in the society. Apart from them, Ponnusami portrays the impacts of urbanization and social oppressions on women. He effectively handles the emotionally complex themes such as familial and sibling relationship. Apart from these themes, his novels are also known for the dialects and unique linguistic structures.
