Abstract

The most ancient form of worship found among the Tamils is the worship of the Mother Goddess. This type of worship has been seen from ancient times to the present. Man began worshipping nature itself. There are many references to this type of worship in Sangam literature. This article aims to examine how this type of worship of the Mother Goddess exists in the history of Tamil Nadu using Tamil literature. It also looks at the remains of the worship of the Mother Goddess of the ancient Tamils. This article uses the historical method approach and the interpretive approach.

தமிழர்களிடையே காணப்பட்ட மிக தொன்மையான வழிபாடு தாய்தெய்வ வழிபாடு. பண்டைய காலம் முதல் இக்காலம் வரை இவ்வகையான வழிபாடு காணப்பட்டு வருகிறது. மனிதன் இயற்கையிலிருந்தே வழிபாட்டை தொடங்கினான். சங்க இலக்கியங்களில் இத்தைகைய வழிபாட்டிற்கான குறிப்புகள் ஏராளமாக காணப்படுகிறது. தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களை வைத்து இவ்வகையான தாய்தெய்வ வழிபாடு தமிழக வரலாற்றில் எப்படி பரவியுள்ளது என ஆராய்வதாக இக்கட்டுரை அமைந்துள்ளது. பண்டைய தமிழரின் தாய்தெய்வ வழிபாட்டின் எச்சங்களை காண முயல்கிறது. இக்கட்டுரையில் வரலாற்று முறை அணுகுமுறை மற்றும் விளக்கமுறை அணுகமுறை பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
