Moral Principles in Acharakkovai
Keywords:
Acharakkovai, Tamil Literature, Pathinen Kilkkanakku, Moral Principles, Ethics, Good Conduct, Human ValuesAbstract
Tamil literature has long articulated moral principles and ethical values that guide human life. Among the Post-Sangam literature, the Pathinen Kilkkanakku (Eighteen Lesser Texts) hold a prominent place in detailing the righteous living and moral conduct of the Tamils. A notable work among these is Acharakkovai. The term Acharam denotes discipline, good conduct, and a righteous way of life, while Kovai signifies a compilation or sequence. Thus, Acharakkovai can be defined as a treatise that compiles rules on how a human being should live a disciplined and ethical life.
