Abstract

This study examines the continuity, transformations, and conflicts between ancient Tamil educational traditions and contemporary learning paradigms through a historical and analytical lens. Historically rooted in Sangam literature, the Thirukkural, and religious scholarly traditions, traditional Tamil education prioritized ethical grounding, holistic humanism, social responsibility, and practical life skills. In contrast, modern educational systems emphasize outcome-based learning, student-centered frameworks, and digital modalities—ranging from hybrid platforms to artificial intelligence—which often accelerate cognitive and technical development at the expense of moral and attitudinal growth. By analyzing primary historical texts alongside modern educational data, the research investigates how this shift toward result-oriented and technological learning impacts Tamil cultural identity and social cohesion. Ultimately, the abstract underscores the necessity of a balanced pedagogical approach that integrates traditional humanistic values with modern technological advancements to ensure sustainable educational and cultural progress for future generations.
