Abstract

Society, at its core, is a collective of individuals. However, historical and persistent inequalities within this collective have meant that oppressed communities have ceaselessly strived for liberation from traditional constraints imposed by family, caste, society, and government. Writer Rajam Krishnan incisively observes these relentless struggles for life. Furthermore, this creator is deeply moved by the consequences arising from issues born out of caste, religious, and political systems, encompassing poverty, unemployment, exploitation, bribery, bonded labour, untouchability, denial of rights, child labour, and the subjugation of women. Economic disparities within society gave rise to a stark division between the rich and the poor, fostering master-slave dynamics. In this hierarchical structure, the wealthy, often the ruling class, exploited the economically disadvantaged, forcing them into arduous labour for meager wages. This plight afflicted adults and children alike, reducing them to daily-wage slaves without discrimination. In a particularly tragic manifestation of this exploitation, children were employed as bonded labourers in match factories, often to repay debts incurred by their parents. The novel 'Koottukkunjugal' meticulously chronicles the lives of these child labourers existing in such brutal conditions. This article, therefore, seeks to illuminate the challenges faced by child labourers as depicted through the narrative of this novel.

சமுதாயம் என்பது மக்கள் வாழும் கூட்டமாகும். சமூகத்தலுள்ள ஏற்றத்தாழ்வுகளினால் தொடக்க காலத்திலிருந்தே குடும்பம், சாதி, சமூகம், அரசு ஆகியவை விதித்த மரபுக் கட்டுப்பாடுகளிலிருந்து விடுதலைபெற தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மக்கள்  இன்றளவும் போராடி வருகின்றனர். இந்த வாழ்க்கைப் போராட்டங்களை எழுத்தாளர் ராஜம்கிருஷ்ணன் நுட்பமாகப் பார்க்கிறார். மேலும் சாதி, சமயம் மற்றும் அரசியல் அமைப்புகளின் வழி உருவாகும் சிக்கல்களான வறுமை, வேலையின்மை, சுரண்டல், கையூட்டு, கொத்தடிமைமுறை, தீண்டாமை, உரிமை மறுப்புகள், குழந்தைத் தொழிலாளர்முறை மற்றும் பெண்ணடிமைத்தனம் ஆகியவற்றின் வாயிலாக ஏற்படுகின்ற விளைவுகள் இப்படைப்பாளரைப் பெரிதும் பாதிக்கின்றன.

            சமூகத்தில் நிலவிய பொருளாதார ஏற்றத்தாழ்வுகளினால் ஏழை, பணக்கார்ர் மற்றும் ஆண்டான் அடிமைப் போக்குகள் உருவாகின. இதில் பணக்காரர்கள் அதிகார வர்க்கம் பொருளாதாரத்தில் பின்தங்கிய ஏழை மக்களை தங்களுக்குக் கீழ் குறைந்த கூலிக்கு கடுமையான வேலைகளைச் செய்யப் பணித்தனர். இதில் பெரியவர்கள் முதல் குழந்தைகள் வரை பாகுபாடு இன்றி அடிமைகளைப்போல் தினக்கூலிக்கு வேலை செய்தனர். பெற்றோர்கள் வாங்கிய கடனுக்காக குழந்தைகள் கொத்தடிமைகளாகத் தீப்பெட்டித் தொழிற்சாலைகளில் பணியமர்த்தப்பட்டனர். இத்தகைய சூழலில் வாழும் குழந்தைத் தொழிலாளர்களின் வாழ்வியல் குறித்தும் கூட்டுக் குஞ்சுகள் நாவல் விவரிக்கிறது. இந்நாவலின் வழி குழந்தைத் தொழிலாளர்கள் வாழ்வில் எதிர்கொள்ளும் சிக்கல்களை எடுத்துரைப்பதாக இக்கட்டுரை அமைகிறது.
