Abstract

In the vast landscape of Tamil literature, Dalit literature stands as the voice of the oppressed and a political weapon asserting their existence. Dalit people, who were once rendered powerless in determining their own rights due to the caste system, have today established a unique identity across every sphere of life—including politics, culture, history, and literature.

This research paper provides a detailed analysis of the profound changes triggered in the Tamil literary environment, starting from the Dalit literary uprising that emerged in Maharashtra and Karnataka in the late 20th century. Specifically, it analyzes how the concept of Dalit Feminism diverges from mainstream feminism by confronting the triple oppression of caste, class, and gender.

Through seminal works such as Bama's Karukku and Sangati, Sivakami's Pazhaiyana Kazhithalum, Poomani's Piragu, and K. Daniel's Panchamar, this study discusses the life struggles, linguistic styles, and aesthetic shifts of the Dalit people. Furthermore, this research documents the contributions of Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophical background and political movements like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) toward the growth of Dalit literature.
