Abstract

Dalit writers serve as vital chroniclers of Dalit life, offering unvarnished portrayals of their experiences in a manner that is both realistic and authentic, eschewing artificial literary flourishes. Dalit short stories, in particular, are characterized by their stark and unflinching directness, confronting the harsh realities of existence faced by the marginalized. This inherent directness, coupled with a profound sense of self-respect and identity, transforms these narratives into powerful instruments of social commentary and advocacy. Throughout the history of Tamil literature, the utilization of literature as a vehicle for achieving specific goals and as a platform for social struggle has been recurrent. In this vein, Dalit short stories function as potent weapons in the fight for the rights, dignity, and liberation of the oppressed, giving voice to the voiceless and challenging the systemic injustices they endure. They represent a literary battleground where the fight for equality and social justice is waged through the power of storytelling.
