The potential of any system, whether technological, intellectual, artistic, or cultural, is realized through change. Without it, stagnation and decline are inevitable. This principle is undeniably relevant to language, including Tamil. The Tamil of two thousand years ago has evolved greatly into the Tamil we use today reflecting the changes in our lifestyle. The contrast however arises from the fact that despite these shifts in the spoken and written form, the language's classical grammars have remained largely unchanged. Though the need for a grammar that reflects modern usage has been acknowledged, progress on this front has been slow. To ensure the vitality, richness, and global relevance of Tamil for future generations, we need to create an updated grammar built upon its classical roots. This document thus proposes the scope, guidelines, and methods for such an undertaking.
