Abstract

This research paper extensively and meticulously analyzes the nationalist thoughts embedded in the poetry of Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, one of the primary figures of the Dravidian movement. A general historical image has been constructed that creators within the Dravidian movement were alienated from the Indian national mainstream or lacked patriotism. This paper establishes, based on data, how the poetic lines of Kalaignar shatter the falsity of that image. Specifically, it analyzes how he merged Indian independence, national integrity, and state rights into a single point. The core themes of this article include the political contradictions existing on August 15, 1947, his method of singing about freedom by breaking prosodic traditions, and his poetic tendency to compare imprisonment and liberty through natural symbols. Furthermore, this study confirms that his poems are not merely emotional outbursts but are a literary form of federal philosophy (Federalism).
