Abstract

This article explores the historical evolution, philosophical foundations, and socio-political impacts of feminist thought from a comprehensive academic perspective. It discusses how feminism has adapted itself, starting from the 19th-century suffrage movements (First Wave) to contemporary struggles centered on technology and diversity (Fourth Wave).

In particular, the article analyzes the connections and contradictions between Western feminist theories and the unique "Periyarist Feminist" thoughts of India, especially Tamil Nadu. It documents how the female voice has been recorded in the Tamil literary landscape, from Sangam literature to modern-day Dalit feminist writings. Furthermore, this paper provides a data-driven analysis regarding recent 2024-25 statistics, Tamil Nadu's new policy for women, and prevailing gender gaps..
