Abstract

Depicting the lifestyle of people and the core values of the soil is a long-standing tradition in Tamil literature. For more than the past twenty years, writer Imayam has been documenting through his unique linguistic style the lives of marginalized people, Dalits, women, and vulnerable sections subjected to patriarchal oppression. Using his Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel Chellatha Panam (2018) as the primary source, the objective of this paper is to analyze the self-determined choices of modern educated women, class and caste contradictions, and the brutal realities of domestic violence. Furthermore, drawing upon research data from open-access journals like the International Research Journal of Tamil (IRJT), this paper comprehensively analyzes the significance of the character 'Arunmozhi', who echoes a new feminist voice of companionship in the novel, and the existential downfall faced by the protagonist 'Revathi'.
