This article explains that in Sangam Akam literature, the Thozhi (confidante) is not merely a supporting character but a powerful personality equal to the hero and heroine. Using Tolkappiyam and the Ettuthokai anthologies as evidence, this research establishes how she serves as a brilliant advisor and a protective fortress for love during both the clandestine (Kalavu) and wedded (Karpu) stages of life. Specifically, the paper provides a detailed analysis of how her eloquence, intellect, and psychological insights lead love toward marriage through literary conventions such as Arathodu Nitral, Varaivu Kadathal, and Iyarpalithal.
