Tamil short stories have a rich history of over a hundred years. The modern Tamil short story genre began with Va.Ve. Subramaniya Iyer. In the 1940s, there was a surge in the publication of Tamil short stories, thanks in part to the efforts of magazines and journals. In 1933, Anandha Vikatan magazine held a short story competition, which became a turning point in the evolution of the modern Tamil short story. Many new writers came forward with their stories. Tamil short stories have been used to depict the struggles and experiences of ordinary people in a realistic way. For example, writers like Puthumaipithan, La.Sa. Ramamirtham, Mauni, wrote short stories that depicted the struggles of ordinary people during the Manikodi and Ezhuthu periods. Even in the 1990s, writers like S. Ramakrishnan wrote short stories that explored the psychological experiences of ordinary people. Particularly his male characters struggle a lot to come across their inner feelings. For example, the male character in "Ilathavargal Thandha Amudham" is unable to cope with humiliation and the male character in "Pappuvin Kaalani" misses his daughter after she gets married. These characters express some weird behaviours when they are confronted with anxiety and frustration. The aim of this research paper is to find the reasons behind the weird behaviors expressed by those characters.
