A Study of Theological Doctrines and Life Ethics in Tamil Christian Epics

Abstract

Tamil Christian epics represent a unique synthesis of Biblical theology and the classical aesthetics of Tamil literary tradition. This study examines the ways in which theological doctrines and ethical values are articulated within these epic narratives. It particularly focuses on central Christian themes such as the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, divine love, compassion, forgiveness, the doctrine of creation, sacraments, and the concept of the Trinity, analyzing how these ideas are reinterpreted within the structural and stylistic conventions of Tamil epic literature.

The analysis reveals that these works move beyond mere religious storytelling and function as texts of moral and philosophical significance. They not only communicate spiritual insights but also provide ethical guidance, while contributing to broader literary and cultural discussions. In this sense, Tamil Christian epics can be understood as integrative texts that connect spirituality, literary expression, and lived human experience.
