Centered on the *Devi Mahatmya* section of the *Markandeya Purana*, this study examines the philosophical foundations of Shakti worship within Hinduism's Shakta tradition. Structured around a dialogue between Sage Markandeya and Kraustuki and anchored by three core mythological narratives—the slayings of Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura, and Shumbha-Nishumbha—the text establishes Parasakti as the supreme divinity responsible for cosmic creation, preservation, and dissolution. Using textual and expository methodologies, the paper demonstrates how the veneration of Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati offers a blueprint to overcome the three *gunas* (*tamas*, *rajas*, and *sattva*), ultimately reframing Shakti worship from external ritualism into an internal spiritual journey of self-elevation.
