Abstract

This research article examines the cultural representations found in Sakthi Jothi’s poetry collection Kanavin Mutrathil Tharaiyirangum Tharaigal. Culture encompasses the way of life, customs, food practices, relationships, emotions, and the relationship between human beings and nature within a society. The collection records various cultural elements through poems that portray a life closely connected with nature, love, food culture, motherhood, and seed dormancy. Natural elements such as rain, soil, plants, and mushrooms, along with everyday practices such as eating ayirai fish and a mother giving a ball of rice to her child, emerge as significant markers of cultural life. The emotions associated with love and separation also reflect the emotional dimensions of human culture. Furthermore, the seed and the process of pollination represent the interdependence and continuity of life. Thus, this study highlights how Sakthi Jothi’s poems function as cultural records that connect human life with nature and everyday lived experiences.
