Abstract
The novel Velpari celebrates a life lived in harmony with nature. Human beings first exchanged information with one another through whistling sounds; later, messages reached their destination through envoys, birds and animals. In the present age, information reaches people through computers, smartphones and many other technologies. Velpari is set against a Sangam-age background. Although none of the technologies of the modern age existed in that period, people conveyed information with the help of nature. Historical novels reveal, through fiction, the politics, economy and culture of a particular period, and this novel shows how people communicated through nature and thereby ordered their lives well. In the novel, the clans destroyed by the three crowned kings take refuge with Pari, and their exchange of information is seen to take place through signs and codes.
