Abstract · English
To examine the impact of folk literature, merely counting the presence of rural elements is insufficient. It is necessary to explain how a tradition's meaning and social function change when it enters poetry. This paper analyzes the poetic expression of oral style, childcare traditions, beliefs, material culture, labor, and memories of relationships in selected standalone poems of Na. Muthukumar. Poetic excerpts appearing in web-verified research papers are subjected to close reading. Fifteen studies from the period 2021–2026 are used as background; a 2018 study confirming poetic lines is additionally included. Film songs and prose formatted as line-broken poetry are excluded from the study. Three movements are evident in the selected poems: remembering tradition, turning everyday objects into symbols of emotion, and exposing the contradictions within tradition. In particular, hunger, gender inequality, and ecological degradation create a space for critique within the aesthetics of tradition. These are not general conclusions for his entire body of work; they are explanatory findings bounded by the available textual evidence.
