The Tradition of Ainkurunuru’s Akattinai and its Life Values

Abstract

This study explores the expression of Akattinai concepts in the Sangam-era literary work Ainkurunuru. Akattinai represents the emotional and inner world of humans, depicting feelings such as love, separation, sorrow, joy, modesty, and affection, often in harmony with nature. The five classical landscapes Thinai, Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neithal, and Palai—are central to these depictions. Moreover, the text emphasizes themes such as the dignity of labor, domestic virtues of women, maternal affection, the wisdom of caretakers, and social customs, thereby broadening the scope of Akattinai. Human life is portrayed through interactions with living beings and natural symbols, providing a rich and nuanced understanding of personal and social experiences. Consequently, Ainkurunuru is considered a seminal work that not only showcases the richness of the Akattinai tradition but also reflects the depth and values of Sangam culture. This study aims to examine these dimensions in detail.

சங்ககால இலக்கியமான ஐங்குறுநூறு நூலில் அகத்திணைச் சிந்தனைகளின்                              வெளிப்பாட்டை ஆராய்கிறது. அகத்திணை என்பது மனித மனத்தின் உணர்வுகளைப் பிரதிபலிப்பதாகும். அன்பு, பிரிவு, துயரம், மகிழ்ச்சி, நாணம், பாசம் போன்ற உணர்வுகள் இயற்கையோடு இணைந்து சித்தரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. குறிஞ்சி, முல்லை, மருதம், நெய்தல், பாலை ஆகிய ஐந்திணைகளும் இந்நூலில் இடம்பெறுகின்றன. மேலும், உழைப்பின் மகத்துவம், பெண்களின் இல்லற மாண்பு, தாயின் பாசம், செவிலியின் அறிவுரை, சமூக மரபுகள் போன்றவை அகத்திணையின் பரிமாணங்களை விரிவாக்குகின்றன. மனித வாழ்க்கை அஃறிணை உயிர்கள் மற்றும் இயற்கைச் சின்னங்களின் மூலம் வெளிப்படுகிறது. ஆகவே, ஐங்குறுநூறு அகத்திணை மரபின் செறிவையும் சங்க பண்பாட்டின் ஆழத்தையும் வெளிப்படுத்தும் முக்கிய நூலாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. இதனைக் குறித்து ஆய்வதே இங்கு நோக்கமாக அமைகின்றது.
