This article presents a detailed analysis of the creative techniques, socio-political perspectives, and ideological positions of Thazhai Madhiyavan, an author who left a significant mark on the Islamic fictional landscape in the Tamil context during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Focusing specifically on three major short story collections—Thuppakkigalil Pookkum Boopalam (2004), Avargal Azhuthu Kondirukkiraargal (2006), and Karunanidhi Gounder (2008)—this study meticulously examines elements such as the impact of real-life incidents woven into his narratives, Islamic puritanical ideologies (Wahhabism), critiques of Dargah culture, and the expression of feminist thought.
Furthermore, the paper discusses how historical tragedies, such as the Kattankudy mosque massacre in Sri Lanka, are fictionalized, and explores the conflicting relationship between Dravidian politics and Islamic principles. This research establishes that Thazhai Madhiyavan’s literary journey is not merely storytelling but serves as a field reflecting a community's search for identity and ideological transformation.
