Children’s Literature holds a special place in Tamil Literature. While most other literary genres largely depict lives, experiences, and societal realities, children’s literature focuses on young readers’ thoughts, emotions and imagined worlds. Among the notable writers in this genre, Vishnupuram Saravanan short story Kayiru (“The Rope”) is noteworthy. The novel effectively depicts the interaction between children and society, demonstrating how societal system shape young minds. It demonstrates how society imposes caste – based prejudices and discriminatory attitudes on youngsters, despite their inherent desire for equality and inclusivity. Based on this perspective, the current research investigates how Kayiru reflects the impact of social conditioning on children, as well as the consequences for the development of a more equal future society.
