Abstract

Humanity survives because of good and beneficial thoughts and actions of men while managing their day-to-day life! However, humanity and humaneness are uplifted and made to thrive, because of great statesmen, whose upheld the noble thoughts and deeds, even in the most trying and adverse circumstances!

Nobility, Generosity, Mercy, Compassion, Sympathy and Empathy are some of the emotions which symbolise how the inner turmoils of the mans’ feelings, are expressed explicity in action, in the noblest manner! This extreme benevolent response from any individual, is the evidence of the how the individual’s SELF is psychologically mature and had evolved by his experiences of life, his wisdom, his learning and by his virtuous life!

This essay attempts to present the exhibition of human psyche in the Sangam Age, through Purananooru, one of the eight Anthologies of Sangam Literature, depicting the most vulnerable moments in the war field! A poet seeking patronage from a benefactor in the middle of a war at the war field and the benefactor willingly showering the patronage!
