Abstract
Among the retellings of the Mahabharata, Poomaṇi’s Kommai serves as a reflection of regional traditional knowledge. This article examines the significance of women’s voices and the construction of folk elements represented in Kommai. It also explores how Poomaṇi reconstructs the sacred traditions of the Mahabharata and its folk traditions in accordance with his fictional framework. The study further seeks to understand the ways in which classical epic traditions and folk narrative elements are reconfigured through the regional cultural knowledge embedded in the novel.
