Abstract

The concept of the archetype has played a significant role in the creative formation of Sangam literature's Tinai theory. This concept of the archetype was introduced by the psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. In the Kurinji Tinai poems of Natrinai, the weather condition known as "cold" (kulir) is linked with human events and emotions in accordance with the poem's central theme and setting. Specifically, the cold season serves as an archetype that connects emotions such as fear, the inability to bear separation, anticipation, memory, and the cure for the disease of love with events like the female companion urging the hero to marry, and the mother performing the ritual exorcism (Veriyattu). Thus, it functions as a distinctive feature of the Kurinji Tinai.
