Prosodic structure of Tolkappiyam and Deviation

Abstract

Prosody is the external form of the poetry or literature. This structure operates at various levels depends upon the content as well as the types of poem. In this context, The prosodic structure functions as the various flexible and deviant positions.  Hence, the prosodic structure of Tolkappiyam includes Eluttu (Phoneme), Acai (the metrical syllable), Cir (foot). All these elements will be formed in Ati (the metrical line) based content of the poem. In this regard, In the prosodic concept of Tolkappiyam, the rhythm and content are integrated flexibly. In this regard, the article focuses on the study of the prosodic structure of deviation in Tolkappiyam.

யாப்பியல் என்பது ஒரு கவிதை அல்லது இலக்கியத்தின் புறவடிவத்தைக் குறிக்கும். இந்தப் புறவடிவம் பொருண்மைக்கும் பாவடிவத்திற்கும் ஏற்ப தனித்துவமாக வேறுபட்டு அமைகிறது. அதைப்போலவே ஒவ்வொரு பாவுக்குமுரிய யாப்பமைப்பானது மாறாத வழாநிலைத் தன்மையில் இல்லை. அவை நெகிழ்வுடன் கூடியதாக வழுவமைதித் தன்மையுடையதாக அமைகிறது. அந்த வகையில் தொல்காப்பிய யாப்பியல் எழுத்து, அசை, சீர் முதலிய உறுப்புகளை உள்ளடக்கிய அடியின் பொருள்தளத்தை நோக்கியதாக அமைகிறது. இந்நிலையில் தொல்காப்பியத்தின் யாப்பிசையும் உள்ளடக்கமும் இணைந்ததாக நெகிழ்வுத் தன்மையுடையதாக அமைகின்றன. இவ்வாறு தொல்காப்பியத்தின் யாப்பியல் வழுவமைதிக் கூறுகளை முதன்மைப்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் இக்கட்டுரை அமைகிறது.
