Abstract

It is no exaggeration to say that the dynamics and identity of Tamil society are crystallized through its festivals. Festivals function as the vibrant Cultural Nodes of society; they are not merely confined to rituals or entertainment events. This research article examines how major Tamil social festivals—comprising seasonal celebrations, temple festivals, and family-social rituals—transcend time to nurture and shape social cohesion, collective responsibility, moral values, and cultural continuity.

Furthermore, in the face of contemporary challenges such as globalization, urbanization, and technological integration, this study considers how these traditional events undergo redesigning and experience shifts in their essence and expression. It analyzes the impact on the social moral framework and collective cultural memory when older festival environments fade or merge with new socio-economic dynamics.

This research is conducted using an interdisciplinary approach, including historical document analysis, field observation, interviews with festival participants, and theories of cultural diffusion. Ultimately, the article moves toward the conclusion that festivals represent a dynamic dialogue between static antiquity and changing social needs.
