Myths have existed since time immemorial as traditional continuities in both the oral and written forms of human life. Their imprints are found across world literatures to such an extent that human life is inseparable from them. The mythical elements within literature serve as a mirror reflecting a language's antiquity, civilization, and cultural components. In the ancient Tamil language, myths have expanded and evolved from Sangam literature through to modern contemporary works.
In this context, Kalithogai—one of the Ettuthogai (Eight Anthologies) of Sangam literature—utilizes ancient epics and folklore as narrative tools to express the nuances of the Akam (interior) tradition. This article explains how these mythical elements manifest through the voices of narrators within a social background in Kalithogai.
