Abstract

Writer Su. Venugopal is someone who has inextricably linked land and people in Tamil literature. An ethnic group is a collective of people who identify themselves as a distinct society based on culture, language, history, habitat, and ancestry. In his short stories and novels, Su. Venugopal highlights the livelihoods of the common Mudhuvar tribes living in the mountains, as well as the survival struggles and nomadic lifestyles of marginalized ethnic groups such as the Ambattayar community, Narikuravars, and Thombars.

His stories illustrate how the introduction of machines due to technological advancement leads to the decline of traditional crafts and arts that have served as the identity of specific ethnic groups for generations.
