In ancient Tamil society, the practice of hospitality, welcoming guests, was deeply ingrained in their cultural structure. Hospitality was regarded as a very important virtue and a marker of a moral life. The timeless ethical text, Thirukkural, fully expresses the significance of welcoming guests. The purpose of this article is to illustrate how Karaikal Ammaiyar, revered in the Tamil Shaiva tradition, lived a noble family life, consistently adhering to the principles of hospitality.
