Abstract

Tamil literature encompasses multifaceted dimensions of human knowledge, including religion, devotion, politics, sociology, medicine, and scientific thought. Among these works, the Kamba Ramayanam, authored by Kamban, stands as a peak of Tamil imaginative literature. In the current context of rapid advancements in fields such as nanotechnology, nanomedicine, metamaterials, and intelligent sensors, certain descriptive scenes in the original text of the Kamba Ramayanam can be conceptually compared with these modern technological ideas. This paper analyzes five selected scenes from the Kamba Ramayanam—the subtlety of the atom, Hanuman's transformation of form, revival through the Sanjeevani herb, precision missiles, Indrajit's illusory warfare, and Hanuman's espionage operation—by linking them with original verses and comparing them to modern nanotechnology, metamaterial science, targeted drug delivery systems, precision weapons technology, and micro-surveillance technology. These comparisons should not be regarded as historical evidence proving the direct existence of modern scientific knowledge in ancient times; rather, the objective of this paper is to illustrate how a poet's imaginative capacity can conceptually converse with modern scientific hypotheses.
