கொற்றவை: தொன்மங்களை மீட்டுருவாக்கம் செய்யும் புனைவு
Abstract
Myth serves as an expression of tradition and is deeply intertwined with the lives of the people. As the socio-cultural context of a people evolves, myths undergo a process of re-creation. Emerging from the soil of the Kumari region, Jeyamohan’s novel 'Kotravai' advances a specific perspective on women by weaving together narratives rooted in the myths indigenous to this land. Going beyond the information and sentiments provided by Ilango Adigal, Jeyamohan has strengthened the story by generating additional narratives and details derived from mythology; in this endeavor, myth itself has served as a vital ally. Through 'Kotravai', Jeyamohan has re-imagined the story of 'Silappathikaram', employing myth as a crucial instrument. He has aligned the religious, cultural, and political milieu of that era with mythological events, reshaping the myths embedded in the collective consciousness of the people to resonate with the present.
