Abstract

The Thirukkural is a work that arose at a time when neither the term "information technology" nor the computer was known. Even so, it contains ideas that match the basic concepts of the information age: data, knowledge, information evaluation, information gathering, communication, information security, and division of work. This paper examines such verses from a comparative perspective. Its conclusion is not that Thiruvalluvar spoke of technology, but that his principles offer guidance for the information age as well.
