Abstract

The short novella “Aathanin Bommai” (Aathan’s Toy) depicts an ancient manner of living. Readers can see different archaeological elements related with the Indus Valley Civilization in this narrative, including excavated potsherds, coins, ceramics, and seals. The story emphasizes the Indus Valley people’s egalitarian thinking, civilization, culture, economy, technology, language, ethnicity, history, and antiquity, as well as the lifestyles and moral principles that their forefathers practiced. It also features children’s clay toys, cultural expression, artistic sensitivities, and craftsmanship. References to bead necklaces, coral-set rings, jewelry, pearls, old dietary habits, trade and commerce symbols, ancient architecture, and technical breakthroughs add to the archaeological theme. Thus, the short novella Athan’s Toy provides a wealth of archaeological, historical, and cultural insights into ancient life.
