Literary works serve to weigh the events of life found in today's ethical society, explaining both their gentleness and their harshness. It is natural for society to be the core theme of a creator's literary works. Social consciousness is what unites human life with other living beings, soul to soul. This social consciousness emphasizes the essential need for people to connect with one another and serves as the foundation of birth and the reason for its growth. Author Solai Sundaraperumal made the lifestyle of the people living in the Thanjavur region known to the world through his works. His novel Marakkal centers on the events that occur when a man born into a lower caste desires to enter a temple and worship the deity revered by those in the higher castes. This study extensively examines the caste differentiation, divine discrimination, enslavement of people, and the cruelty of untouchability described in the novel from sociological and literary perspectives. Furthermore, this article provides a nuanced analysis of the struggle between the decline of the land-owning society and the transitions of the modern era.
