This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the 2015 Tamil film ‘36 Vayadhinile’, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, from an ecofeminist perspective. It examines how the film constructs the personality evolution and identity reclamation of Vasanthi, a middle-class housewife, by intertwining her journey with terrace gardening and organic farming initiatives.
Drawing upon the core principles of ecofeminism, this paper explains the inherent connection between women and nature, the distinct ways in which a patriarchal society oppresses both women and the environment simultaneously, and how both mutually attain liberation from this oppression. Furthermore, the film's emphasis on toxin-free food production is discussed in detail, highlighting its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), rooted in the philosophies of organic farming scientist G. Nammalvar and ecofeminist Vandana Shiva.
