Abstract
Discourse serves as a primary medium playing a central role in human society’s exchange of ideas and expression of emotions. An individual relies on language to fulfill daily life needs and to express both subjective feelings and objective realities. The fundamental generative purpose of language is to disseminate thoughts and intellectual dialogues within the social realm. Beyond mere linguistic structure, discourse possesses the inherent power to generate context-bound meaning.
Without language, discourse for the expression of thought would be impossible. The primary objective of this research paper is to examine in detail—based on the theories of structuralism, sociolinguistics, and dialogics—how both spoken and written forms of language function as driving forces of discourse in the historical and cultural development of mankind.
