Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is rapidly enhancing its capacity to generate narratives that closely resemble traditional folklore. However, unlike human societies, artificial intelligence possesses no direct lived experience, cultural memory, or ritual participation. Instead, it analyzes structural patterns within massive textual datasets and recombines them into new narrative forms through computational algorithms. This paper analyzes how AI constructs folklore-like structures by borrowing structural elements from traditional folklore and embedding contemporary technological and social themes.

Through a sample AI-generated narrative and its critical textual analysis, this study comprehensively examines digital folklore, hybrid folklore, and the emerging threat of "fakelore" in an era of algorithmic creativity. This paper argues that AI folklore represents a form of "experience-less creativity," wherein cultural forms are simulated through computational modeling rather than being inherited across generations through collective memory or oral tradition.

During the Post-Sangam period, Saivism and Vaishnavism held a pre-eminent position among the religious literary traditions that emerged. Subsequently, Jain and Buddhist literatures further enriched the Tamil language. Following them, the contributions of Christians and Muslims to Tamil literature and language also deserve significant mention. However, the extent of Muslim contributions to Tamil literature is not extensively documented in the history of Tamil literature. Although Pillai Tamil literature flourished widely within the Islamic tradition, it did not gain the same popular influence as Pillai Tamil works from other religious traditions. The objective of this study is to highlight how the authors in two specific Islamic Pillai Tamil works – namely, 'Nabi Nayagam Pillai Tamil' and 'Vallal Seethakkathi Pillai Tamil' – demonstrated their unique creative artistry in their compositions, bringing it to a broader recognition.

This paper undertakes a comparative analysis of Aathichoodi, an eleventh-century treatise, and Thirukkural, a thirteenth-century work, both of which are considered key texts of Tamil literature. The primary focus of this study is to examine the ethical and moral frameworks presented in these works, particularly in the context of caste, social justice, and personal conduct. By exploring these themes through a critical lens, this paper aims to underscore the relevance of these ancient literary works for our contemporary understanding of ethics, morality, and social harmony.

Although Tolkappiyam is primarily a grammatical text focused on Tamil prosody, it also explains the origin of letters, how they form words, and how words combine to form phrases. It introduces the concept of punarcci (phonological combination), detailing how a final word (nirutta col) connects with a following word (kurittu varu kilavi), based on the word endings.Tolkappiyam classifies word endings into vowels (uyir), consonants (mey), and kutriyalukaram. Among these, the vowel ‘a’ (akara uyir) plays a significant role in forming akara veetrup punarcci, where it blends with the next word—a process called uyir mayangial. This grammatical pattern is a key focus of the text.

Early Tamil literary works, especially Pazhanthamizh literature, show connections with Tolkappiyam. Among them, Ainkurunuru, a classical agam collection, holds importance. This study compares the punarcci patterns found in Tolkappiyam with those in Ainkurunuru, particularly in the marutham thinai songs. The goal is to identify literary and grammatical parallels, and establish a chronological correlation between the two works. The alignment of Tolkappiyam’s akara veetrup punarcci with that of Ainkurunuru supports the theory of shared linguistic tradition and time period.

The ancient Tamils traded with Greece and Rome through western ports, and with China, Java and other countries through eastern ports. It continues from the Sangam age. The Manimekalai points to trade relations between China and Java via eastern ports. Also it reveals the spread of Buddhist ethics with trade. Commerce of Manimegalai is continue from the Sangam commerce and spreading of Buddhism.

Sangam literature comprises the anthologies known as Ettuthogai and Pattuppāṭṭu. The people of that era lived in close harmony with nature. The ancient Tamils classified their landscapes into five distinct regions: Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neithal and Pālai. They sourced their food and essential materials directly from nature, based on the characteristics of each landscape. The Mullai thinai refers to forested regions and areas adjacent to forests. The inhabitants of Mullai lands were deeply dependent on the forest for their livelihood. They hunted wild animals and also domesticated them. Forest animals and birds symbolically represent the occupations, social structures, community life, security, and belief systems of the Mullai people. Materialism is a philosophical concept that explains the world primarily through physical matter, asserting that emotions, mind, and soul are all products of material existence. The activities of the Mullai people were inherently material-based, and their way of life reflects materialist principles. The aim of this research is to explore and analyze how the elements of materialism are expressed through the lives and practices of the Mullai landscape people in Sangam literature.

This research paper carefully examines the impact of Tamil films on the values and social habits of youth. Films serve not merely as entertainment, but also as a significant medium for cultural transmission. Particularly, Tamil cinema, through its narratives, character development, and social messages, influences the thoughts, beliefs, and lifestyles of young people.

As youth (aged 15–29) represent an age group highly susceptible to social changes, the influence of films is strongly imprinted upon them. The behavior of heroes, dialogue styles, costume choices, and social commentary are directly reflected in the daily lives of young people. Through films, new words, slang, and novel expressions permeate language usage. These spread rapidly via social media and interactions within fan communities.

Some films highlight significant issues such as social justice, gender equality, caste relations, and environmental awareness, thereby encouraging youth to engage in discussions and social activities. Conversely, certain films depicting violence, sexual violence, or extreme patriarchal scenes could also incite negative behaviors.

As indicated by the literature review, media literacy is essential to balance media influences. Media literacy cultivates in youth the ability to critically engage with on-screen content, enabling them to form values consciously and responsibly.

The proposed pilot design for this study will employ a mixed-methods approach, collecting data from 300 young individuals from Chennai and other cities through questionnaires and focus group discussions. Statistical and thematic analyses will be used to assess the positive and negative effects of films on values and habits.

This study proposes recommendations such as the integration of media literacy into educational curricula, filmmakers creating content with social responsibility, and fan communities fostering healthy discussions. In conclusion, it emphasizes that Tamil films serve as a powerful social tool capable of shaping the thoughts and behavior of youth, and that responsible practices in their use are imperative.

Siddha medicine is an ancient medical system of the Tamils. It emphasizes the balance of body, mind, and soul. Elements of Siddha medicine are deeply rooted in Tamil literature. In Sangam literature, references to the medicinal uses of natural plants and methods of curing diseases with herbs are found. In Thiruvalluvar's Thirukkural, subtle ideas about the cause of disease, its nature, and methods of treatment are present. The Kural (couplet) "Noi Nadi Noi Mudhal Nadi Adhu Thanikkum Vaai Nadi Vaayppa Seyal" (Diagnose the disease, find its root cause, and then find the right way to alleviate it effectively) explains the fundamental principle of Siddha medicine. In later literary works like Silappatikaram and Manimekalai, references to herbs and surgical methods are also found. The songs/poems of the Siddhars are treasures of Siddha medical science. The Thirumandiram by Thirumoolar and the songs of Siddhars like Agathiyar and Bogar extensively explain various aspects such as disease diagnosis, preparation of medicines using herbs, metals, and minerals, and yogic practices. These literary works convey the philosophy of Siddha medicine and its scientific nature to the world. Through Tamil literature, Siddha medicine has developed into a unique literary tradition and stands as a treasure trove of Tamil knowledge.

The study, "The Use of Musical Instruments in the Worship of Kuzhumayi Amman," explores the cultural significance and use of musical instruments in the worship of the folk deity, Kuzhumayi Amman. It highlights the importance of "material culture studies" in understanding a society's traditions and way of life. The article focuses on three specific instruments: Tharai, Parai and Tamukku or kadinga. The Tharai is a wind instrument made of bronze that is played during the deity's procession and when the deity is placed on and taken off the chariot. Historically, it was used to signal danger, communicate between groups, and announce the arrival of kings or deities. The Parai is an integral part of the festival, played from the beginning to the end, and especially during the ritual dance of the oracle. The Tamukku, a leather instrument, is considered the guardian deity Kuzhumayi Amman. It is made by the Paraiyar community and is believed to ward off evil spirits. The people who create the instrument also worship it in their homes after the festival, a practice that reflects a belief in the divine power residing within musical instruments, a notion also found in Sangam literature and among certain Dravidian tribes.

It is not an exaggeration to state that our Tamil literature embodies the life principles essential for human society to flourish. All the ethical principles that humans ought to adhere to are enshrined in the Thirukkural. This research paper aims to highlight a few of these principles, such as the principles of love, truthfulness, and charity. It is highly appropriate to recall here the statement by scholar Caldwell: "Even if civilization completely vanished from the world, if the Thirukkural and Kamban's epic remained, it would be enough to rebuild it again." In line with this statement, the principle of love will serve to restore love within humans who are living without humanity in today's bustling world. The principle of truthfulness will remind those who wander speaking falsehoods in this deceptive world of the greatness of truthfulness. The principle of charity will instill the quality of benevolence that should be present within everyone.

This research paper encapsulates two historical truths. Firstly, it explores the Kumari Continent, believed to be the cradle of the primeval human race, and asserts that Lord Thirumurugapperuman, who originated from this land of Kumari, is indeed 'the primordial God of the world'. The objective of this study is to establish, through Sangam literature, how the worship of Murugan was practiced in the remaining landmass of Kumari after the great tsunami – which is present-day Tamil Nadu – excluding the submerged portions of the Kumari land. This article primarily investigates how the heroine's emotions are revealed through the Thinai (landscape-based poetic genre) in Sangam literature. In the Sangam period, emotion was considered an integral part of human life, intertwined with nature, as a component of one's mental state. The heroine's physical and psychological emotions, such as the hero's separation, secret love (kallavolukkam), love-sickness (pasalai noi), pangs of love, mental depression, and helplessness, are expressed through color symbolism, statements conveyed via her female companion (Thozhi), and external scenes. Specifically, in Akam (love) poems like Kuruntokai and Narrinai, the heroine's inner feelings gain intricate literary form. Two major emotional states—separation and union—are created through imagery, evidenced by instances such as the onset of pasalai (paleness due to love-sickness), shedding tears, and becoming pale and despondent. These emotions are expressed simply yet intensely through the companion's narrations, humor, symbolism, external imagery, traditional phrases, and Thinai-specific descriptions. By meticulously examining the heroine's emotions from a sociological and psychological perspective, this study illuminates the expression of feminism in Sangam literature and the contemplation of women's status in society. Thus, Sangam literary poems that express the heroine's emotions through Thinai serve as multifaceted documents of emotional identity. In Sangam literature, emotions such as the heroine's sleeplessness, the agony of separation, mental anxiety, loneliness, psychological helplessness, and sorrow are expressed with great subtlety and emphasis through the Thinai structure. Akam literary works like Kuruntokai, Narrinai, and Akananuru notably record how the heroine's restless sleeplessness due to thoughts of the hero is seen as an expression of mental stress and a psychological problem. Based on Freud and other psychological theories, these states are interpreted as psycho-emotional phenomena such as erotomania (love sickness), hysteria, and lack of fulfillment/union. The heroine's sleeplessness, her expressions of sorrow to her companion, and the reflection of her mental distress in natural phenomena describe the psychological nature of a woman. These emotions, intertwined with social, psychological, and cultural contexts, convey the heroine's compassion, frustration, the pain of separation, and the depth of her love. Therefore, the objective of this paper, "Emotional Records of the Heroine Through Thinaisal," is to re-examine and highlight how the background of the heroine's sleeplessness profoundly reflects a person's psychological distress in Sangam literature.

This paper examines how feminist voices are formed and how their aesthetic, body politics, cultural, and anthropological dimensions are manifested in contemporary Tamil Dalit literature. Literary works such as novels, short stories, and poems by prominent writers like Imayam, Azhagiya Periyavan, Bama, and Sukirtharani reflect the growth of Dalit feminism in Tamil and the quest for social change. Through thematic and chronological reviews, these collections synthesize diverse perspectives on aesthetic insights, the politics of the body, education, professional identities, and social rejections. By articulating the lived experiences of Dalit women, these works record the counter-voices emerging from within. Through this, the paper elucidates the theoretical frameworks of Tamil Dalit feminist literature and its social and cultural impacts.

We demonstrate through textual, mathematical, and historical analysis that the Thirukkural, a renowned Tamil ethical treatise comprising of 1330 couplets and traditionally attributed to the poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, is an incomplete Jain philosophical work, originally comprising 2664 couplets across six sections (Aram, Porul, Inbam, Jnanam, Darshanam, and Moksham) plus four capstone couplets. Unified by samyak charitra (right conduct) and intricate numerical symbolism (e.g., 2664 ÷ 4 = 666, 2ⁿ −7 = x²) aligns with Jain numerology and cosmology, its truncation is attributed to British Conspiracy, led by two britishers, One Mr. George Harrington and other Mr. Francis Whyte Ellis (1777 – 1819), a British Civil Servant in the Madras Presidency and a scholar of Tamil and Sanskrit. The text’s structure reflects Jain mathematical precision, evident in a hypothesized 4+3 shift pattern—where couplets 9 (a square number, 3²) and 5 shift upward by 4 and 3 places, respectively, in each chapter’s reordering—ensuring thematic continuity across all 133 chapters and mirroring the kural venpa meter. The lost symmetry of Tirukkural’s philosophical structure is also decoded. All this numerical designs, alongside linguistic foundations in Sanskrit terms like Aadhi (“first”), Bhaga (“divine glory”), and the -van suffix (“possessing”), as seen in Bhagavān (“primal enlightened one”), aligns with Jain principles and the 24 Tirthankaras, 3 jewels, and 4 gatis. Crafted by Jain monks during the Sangam period (300 BCE–500 CE) for Tamil Nadu’s adivasi communities, the Tirukkural is “Voices of Virtue,” with “Thiruvalluvar” a Tirthankara-like title. Evidence includes textual analysis (ahimsa in Kurals 251, 324), Silappathikaram parallels, historical inscriptions, Jain numerical motifs, and the linguistic precision of divine epithets, challenging Hindu and secular interpretations (Mahadevan 2003; Jaini 1979).

We delve into philosophy when we attempt, in some way, to contemplate and research worldly matters. A knowledge of philosophy is essential to understand why humans live and what their life's objectives are. This can be observed in Thayumanavar's hymns. While many religious scholars and saints have stated that it is sufficient to live by remembering and praising Lord Shiva, who is the foremost among all and possesses unparalleled divine qualities, the objective of this article is to bring to light how Thayumanavar, in his songs, has subtly or esoterically sung about the philosophical principles revealed by Shiva's sacred emblems.

Only those who comprehend the ultimate truth possess true spiritual wisdom. They were called Siddhas and Gnanis (sages). Among them, Thirumoolar stands out as one of the most prominent. His verses contain a wealth of information including the Ashtama Siddhis (eight supernatural powers), paths to attaining God, and medical knowledge. Among these diverse topics, this article focuses on exploring the mystery of human birth and the paths that lead from fleeting worldly pleasures to ultimate bliss (Moksha/liberation).

Dreams demonstrate that our brain can automatically generate and allow us to perceive events based on our conscious experiences. It is surprising that Valluvar spoke about dreams – including how they relate to brain functions based on conscious experiences during sleep, why the dreamer is often detached from their environment, and whether dreaming is closely related to mental imagination and ideas – at a time when neuroscientific facts were still unknown. It is not only surprising that Valluvar discussed dreams when neuroscientific facts were yet unknown, but it is also astonishing that he specifically dedicated Chapter 122 to the topic, titled 'Kanavunilaiyuraiththal' (The Nature of Dreams). Furthermore, besides these, he has also mentioned dreams in the Porutpal (Book on Wealth/Politics) in chapters such as 'Thee Natpu' (Evil Friendship - 819) and 'Iravu' (Begging - 1054). Current neuroscientific studies have confirmed the phenomena Valluvar described, such as the appearance of a lover in dreams, finding pleasures in dreams that are not obtainable in wakefulness, and the connections between dreams and waking life.
