Abstract

Culture is like a mirror that illuminates and reflects the passage of time. The culture of a people is transmitted from one generation to another and serves as a representation of human civilization. In particular, the culture of folk communities is worthy of systematic study and documentation. Deities, which are closely associated with the spiritual beliefs of people, form an integral part of their worship and religious practices. The Badrakali Amman Temple, located in Sivakasi in Virudhunagar District, is one of the prominent temples in the region. As a deity worshipped by various folk communities, the temple reflects significant cultural traditions in its architectural structure, modes of worship, festivals, and related practices. Mother Goddess worship has been one of the most important forms of worship in Tamil Nadu. This temple, which serves both as a foundation of Mother Goddess worship and as a marker of the identity of various ethnic and social groups, embodies several cultural traditions and remnants of folk practices. This article examines the cultural aspects of the Badrakali Amman Temple and its significance in preserving the traditions and identity of the communities associated with its worship.
