Tamil literature evidences sophisticated early medical concepts, including battlefield wound care using cotton dressings, thread suturing, and surgical interventions documented in texts like Pathitrupathu and Purananuru. Works like Tirukkural, Tirigadugam, and Sirupanchamoolam emphasize holistic principles-diagnosing root causes, regulating diet, and utilizing natural remedies like pepper, ginger, and neem. Centered on the philosophy "Food is medicine, medicine is food," Tamil medicine prioritizes disease prevention, physical well-being, and eco-friendly practices. Because its remedies act as natural extensions of food, the system offers effective treatment without side effects, reflecting a timeless, sustainable approach to health and longevity.
